A small office was packed to capacity last week as Clutha-Southland MP and Deputy Prime Minister Bill English was welcomed to his electorate office in Queenstown.

Mr English said establishing the office was important because it provided a service to the people of Queenstown.

While his official duties would keep him in the office much of the time, electorate manager Barbara Swann would be his "eyes and ears".

Ms Swann said the inclusion of Queenstown in the redrawn Clutha-Southland electorate had brought a range of new issues for Mr English to consider.

With Queenstown representing about 25% of the entire population of the electorate, Mr English would make the resort "a priority", she said.

Frankton had been chosen as the site for the office as it is a family-oriented area and close to facilities, such as the airport.

• Bill English's Clutha-Southland electorate office is above Nandos on Frankton Rd and is open 10am-3pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
