More than 45 competitors turned out at the weekend for the 2009 Queenstown Tennis Open, coinciding with the club's 100th birthday.

Spokesman James Powell said the crowd was treated to some "outstanding" tennis.

No 1 seed and former professional Perry Crocket, of Wanaka, won the men's singles without dropping a set.

Top Queenstown junior Harry James finished runner-up after beating second seed Dwayne Cleugh, of Dunedin, in the semifinals. Crockett and Queenstown Tennis Club coach Mark Milburn won the men's doubles.

Queenstown's Louise Oxnevad had the crowd on her side as she won the women's singles final 6-3 against Wanaka's Libby Scott, taking the title for the first time.

Mr Powell said the tournament capped a "momentous weekend" for the club, following the 100th birthday celebrations complete with a fancy-dress competition, with members and guests dressed as their favourite player from the past 100 years.

An auction of tennis memorabilia also raised more than $1500 for the club.
