Police have launched an investigation into an insurance-related fraud allegedly committed by a former company employee.
The investigation is being carried out by community policing team members and CIB staff.
Community policing team leader Sergeant Aaron Nicholson said the inquiry was at a very early stage.
A complaint was made against a Wanaka-based employee of a large company in regards to a "relatively large" amount of money allegedly taken by the fraudulent "use of paperwork", Sgt Nicholson said.
The "insurance-related" fraud investigation is focused on a single person, who is a Wanaka resident, he said.
Sgt Nicholson declined to specify whether the fraud suspect was male or female.
The suspect had "denied everything", he said.
He said the inquiry could take more than a month.
