Frisbee golf up in the air

The right to play frisbee golf on Wanaka's Lismore Park was discussed for two and a-half hours yesterday at a public hearing in Wanaka chaired by Queenstown Lakes councillor Jude Battson.

The activity has drawn 65 submissions from the public since it was notified late last year, with seven people opposing the sport because the recreation reserve is designated for passive activities.

Ms Battson said she and panel members Ken Copland and Mike O'Connor listened to 12 people speak to their submissions yesterday.

Four speakers opposed the frisbee golf proposal and suggested other locations where people could play the sport.

Eight people spoke in support of changing the Lismore Park management plan to permit frisbee golf.

The panel had to clarify some details in the present Lismore Park management plan before releasing its decision on a plan change, Ms Battson said.

The decision should be available for the council meeting on April 12, she said.
