A more mature demographic is being credited for a largely trouble-free Gibbston Summer Concert at the weekend.

Saturday's concert at Gibbston Valley Winery featured headline acts Heart and Foreigner, rock bands of the '80s and '90s, attracting a crowd notable for a wide range of ages.

Police made only two arrests, both for alleged disorderly behaviour.

A 35-year-old Invercargill man and a 33-year-old Dunedin man spent the afternoon in a police van after separate incidents.

Acting Sergeant Jason Reid said the 35-year-old, who was quite near the front of the crowd, was intoxicated.

''He was swaying and generally being a nuisance.''

Acting Sergeant Reid said the man was pulled out by security and became belligerent and aggressive.

The other man was also intoxicated and spoken to by security.

He was ''as good as gold'' until police arrived and then he also allegedly became aggressive and had to be restrained.

Both men were charged with disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence.

''Still, it was good there were only two arrests considering the numbers, although the demographic was different to last year,'' Acting Sgt Reid said.

The concert was the largest event of a busy weekend in the resort, including the sold-out 11th Central Otago Pinot Noir Celebration and Queenstown Golf Club's centenary celebrations.

Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden said the influx of visitors meant the resort was ''buzzing''.

Retailers and accommodation providers would have benefited, but the most pleasing aspect was seeing ''a whole lot of happy people. There was just a vibe about the place.''
