Earthworks contracts to the value of $12 million have been awarded by Wanaka property development company Infinity Ltd to contractors Hick Bros Civil Construction Ltd and B-G Contracting Ltd.

The multimillion-dollar contracts are for work at Infinity's Riverside Park and Peninsula Bay subdivisions, in Wanaka.

Infinity managing director Bob Robertson said the contracts would help boost the local economy.

About 100 people would be employed during the construction of the subdivisions.

Many of them would be local sub-contractors, he said.

Some staff would also come from out of town.

The additional people in Wanaka would help provide additional business to the town, especially in the accommodation and food and beverage sectors.

"Its great for the Wanaka community, especially in the shoulder season," Mr Robertson said.

Hick Bros Civil Construction is an Auckland-based company.

It has 30 years experience in heavy earthmoving and infrastructure development for a variety of projects, including land development, roading, drainage and other civil works.

The company had 150 staff, Mr Robertson said.

Canterbury-based B-G Contracting has 64 staff and 25 years experience in earthworks, roading, and infrastructure development.

B-G Contracting had recently completed earthworks for stage 1 of Peninsula Bay, Mr Robertson said.

The construction of earthworks at Riverside and stage 2 of Peninsula Bay were both expected to be finished by November, he said.
