Auckland guitarist Billy TK jun will be the headline act at SkyCity Queenstown on Sunday during the inaugural Easter Blues event, which will raise money for the Christchurch earthquake appeal.

The musician co-headlined with Ian Moss at the Samoa 2010 International Jazz and Blues Festival and performed at the Sydney Blues Festival with Kevin Borich.

"I closed the Sydney festival on the main stage, which is awesome for a little Kiwi fella like me."

Over two decades, Billy has toured widely in the United States, Australia - including at the Sydney and Narooma Blues Festivals - New Zealand and the Pacific.

When supporting Jimmy Barnes at the 2009 "A Day on the Green" concert series, Billy was invited to play lead guitar with Barnes on two songs. He has toured with George Thorogood, the Neville Brothers, Junior Wells, Mississippi Willie Foster and Joe Satriani.

Billy is on tour now with the "Holden Driving Towards A Future" road safety campaign and preparing for the Fiji 2011 International Jazz and Blues Festival next month.

Billy and his band will be supported by local blues band The Big Sky Band, fronted by Richard Stringer.

SkyCity Queenstown Casino executive manager Michelle Baillie said the event fitted perfectly with both the strong entertainment brand and community focus of SkyCity.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the New Zealand Red Cross earthquake appeal and SkyCity Entertainment Group had offered to match all funds raised on the night.

Stringer said he had long wanted to bring a blues/roots music event to Queenstown at Easter.

He had been a fan of Billy TK jun and seen him perform many times. Event-goers were in for "a real treat", he said.

Tickets cost $25 each from the cashiers desk at the casino, with limited corporate tickets available.
