The Queenstown Lakes District Council's liquor ban comes into force today, making it illegal to consume or possess alcohol in the Queenstown CBD, including Queenstown Gardens and the Queenstown waterfront.
Frankton beach is also covered by the liquor ban, as are large areas of Arrowtown, the Wanaka CBD and Hawea.
The ban is in force from 6am today until 6am on January 6.
Anyone caught breaching it could be fined $250.
