Law feeling 'box of birds'

Charity runner Malcolm Law triumphed over the blues yesterday by completing his third long-distance run in three days feeling a "box of birds".

Law (50) aims to complete seven long-distance runs in a week by Saturday and raise $150,000 for the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation. By yesterday he had raised more than $123,000.

On Monday he was doubting himself after suffering dehydration and negativity during the 55km alpine Young Wilkin circuit near Makarora and requiring medical attention at the end.

It took him 14 hours 10 minutes to complete the 49km alpine Motatapu route between Wanaka and Arrowtown yesterday, with Law thankful cloud cover in the morning kept the temperature down.

A supporting runner "hit the wall" four hours into yesterday's race and Mr Law said he was proud of the supporters who ensured the runner finished.

Law also praised Wanaka GP Andrew McLeod for restoring him to good health with an intravenous drip on Monday night before rising early to run the Motatapu with him yesterday.

• Today: Wakatipu Wonderland (38km).

Tomorrow: Rees-Dart circuit (61km).
