Limits reviewed

New, lower speed limits are planned for the Queenstown Lakes district but will not be in place before the busy summer-holiday period.

Twenty-two roads and streets are in line for the changes and the district council is in the process of consulting the public.

Even if the public gives the thumbs up in submissions and at a hearing in October, signs will not be in place until March 1.

Council asset management engineer Andrew Edgar told the Otago Daily Times yesterday a new bylaw would go to the council for approval just before the sign manufacturer closed for Christmas.

The proposed changes to speed limits resulted from a review by the council and in one case - Peninsula Rd, Kelvin Heights - as a result of a petition from residents.

Other roads affected are: Esplanade Reserve, Hawea; Camphill Rd, Hawea Flat; Old Racecourse Rd, Ewing Pl, Albert Town; Aubrey Rd, Outlet Rd, Cardrona Valley Rd, Orchard Rd, Studholme Rd [South], Ballantyne Rd, Faulks Rd, Mount Barker Rd, Boundary Rd, Morris Rd, Maxwell Rd, Wanaka; Cardrona Valley Rd, Cardrona; Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Rd, Slopehill Rd [West], Wakatipu Basin; Old School Rd, Spence Rd, Lower Shotover; Peninsula Rd, Kelvin Heights.
