Local company pegs $3.2m camping grounds deal

A Queenstown company has paid $3.2million for a 25-year lease of five camping grounds and holiday parks in the district.

The lump-sum figure, which included a lease premium and goodwill, to be paid by CCR Ltd was released yesterday by the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

Annual rent will be $878,000, subject to a periodic review.

Last year, the council decided to get out of running camping grounds.

Last November, CCR took over most of the district's camping grounds under a management agreement, something the council described as as an interim step.

Council chief executive Adam Feeley said the 25-year lease was always the preferred option.

It provided more certainty about income for the council and was an incentive for the camping ground managers to invest in better facilities, he said.

CCR is owned by experienced holiday park operators Erna and Antonius Spijkerbosch, of Queenstown, and Agerta Hofsteenge and Rudolf Sanders, of Wanaka.

The management agreement covers the Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park, Arrowtown Born of Gold Holiday Park, Wanaka Lakeview Holiday Park, Albert Town Camping ground and Glendhu Bay Lakeside Holiday Park.

The Frankton Motor Camp is not included.
