An injured motorcyclist was waiting to be evacuated from a hut at Breast Hill near Hawea last night, after three men were injured in an off-road motorcycle crash.
Senior Sergeant Matt Scoles, of Dunedin, said police were alerted to the incident at 5.45pm.
Snr Sgt Scoles said he understood three men had crashed riding at Lake Hawea Station and were believed to have ridden over a bluff, ''or similar''.
It was uncertain how many motorcycles were involved.
The men made their own way to Breast Hill hut and were found there by a small search and rescue team from Wanaka.
Two of the injured men, who had moderate injuries, were taken by helicopter to the Wanaka Medical Centre.
Snr Sgt Scoles said moving the other man, who had moderate to serious back injuries, was more complicated. A helicopter would collect and fly him to hospital in Timaru or Dunedin.
