Police are reviewing CCTV footage in the search for a group of men who ''seriously assaulted'' a man on Wanaka's lakefront.
Senior Constable Ian Henderson said yesterday three or four local men knocked the man to the ground and kicked him in the head several times at 12.30am on Monday..
The assault occurred between the Kai Whakapai Cafe and Bar and the Doughbin Bakery.
''His injuries required an urgent trip to Dunstan Hospital in an ambulance,'' Sen Const Henderson said.
Police were following some ''strong leads'' into the identities of the assailants, he said, and he asked anyone who had witnessed the assault to contact police.
No arrest had been made by late yesterday.
