Mountain resorts members double

Expansion of an international alliance of mountain resorts will increase Queenstown's marketing impact, Destination Queenstown says.

Leading Mountain Resorts of the World, a marketing alliance including Queenstown, Val Gardena in Italy and Bariloche in Argentina, has agreed to double its membership to six, DQ chief executive David Kennedy said yesterday.

The announcement follows his return from the latest Mountain Resorts conference held in Val Gardena, northern Italy, last week.

Saas Fee in Switzerland, Are in Sweden, and Banff in Canada, have been confirmed as new alliance members.

This would expand the reach of members' collective marketing and cross-promotions, Mr Kennedy said.

‘‘We've gone from three lead ing resorts to six, each of them offering a fantastic alpine holiday proposition.

‘‘This effectively doubles the reach of the Leading Mountain Resorts brand and offers a significant boost to the global reach of the Queenstown brand,'' Mr Kennedy said.

The group might expand again within a year, with nego tiations under way to add four more destinations, Mr Ken nedy said.

‘‘We are the only Australasian destination included in the alliance.

‘‘It is a cost-effective way to further promote our leading lake and alpine resort destination to a wider audience,'' he said.
