Pair face charges over Queenstown assaults

Two people face assault charges after separate incidents in Queenstown over the weekend.

A French woman (23) was arrested shortly before 3am on Sunday morning after a scuffle on Searle Lane, off Camp St.

She's charged with common assault for allegedly hitting a bouncer and is also charged with assaulting police after allegedly kicking out at officers when they arrived on the scene.

The night before, at 10pm, a Christchurch man (21) allegedly head-butted a bouncer at nearby Chico's bar, on The Mall.

Queenstown Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka said: "He was yelling and screaming and the duty manager asked him to quiet. He's then head-butted the doorman."

He was charged with common assault. The doorman's injuries were limited to swelling.

Both the French woman and Christchurch man are due to appear before a registrar at Queenstown District Court today.
