Parking getting tight

Pressure on car parks is mounting as the Queenstown Lakes District Council embarks on its third roadworks projects around Wanaka's central business district.

The latest project - an upgrade of Dunmore and Dungarvon Sts - starts on Monday and will go for two weeks. Twelve parking spaces will be unavailable.

Last week the council started improvements on Ardmore St. This has resulted in the temporary loss of a few car parks on Ardmore St.

The three-month $1.5 million Brownston St infrastructure upgrade began last month.

The bulk of the works goes through the Pembroke Park car park and many parks are temporarily unavailable. Some opposite the New World supermarket are being permanently removed.

The council's next roading project - the extension of a water main on Plantation Rd - is scheduled to start in a few weeks.

The council has acknowledged pressure and says it will try not to be too disruptive.
