The Lake Hawea Community Centre courts at Peter Fraser Park boast some shining new additions with a set of $20,000 lights recently installed at the facility.
The new lights are the result of a two-year-long project to upgrade training and playing facilities for netball and tennis club members at the courts.
Lake Hawea netball club rep Nicky Allum said the lights meant teams no longer had to drive to Wanaka for night training sessions, while tennis club secretary Jimmy Cotter said the upgrade could help attract new members.
The lighting project is the culmination of a fundraising drive by Hawea's sporting clubs, community associations, alongside financial backing from the Queenstown Lakes District Council.
Mr Cotter said local business owners had also given their time, machinery, and skills to assist with installing the lights, while club members had held several working bees to help upgrade facilities.
Netball and tennis club members are set to clash under the lights today, with a game of netball scheduled for 5pm to see which players claim bragging rights in a "lighting" cup, Mr Cotter said.
