A Jjunior pupil at Wakatipu High School has a fractured skull after a football goal frame tipped and fell on him on Friday during a break at 2.15pm.
The boy was taken to Lakes District Hospital by ambulance then to Invercargill.
Wakatipu High School principal Steve Hall said the pupil had since been discharged and was recovering at his home.
The prognosis was good and the pupil was expected back at school next week, Mr Hall said.
In a statement, Mr Hall said he had been keeping in regular contact with the pupil and his family.
Yesterday, Mr Hall said the football goal had been ''completely secured'' against a solid object and the school was investigating the incident.
In 2008, a Queenstown Primary School pupil was seriously injured when a portable metal hockey goal frame fell on her.
The 8-year-old girl's pancreas and duodenum were cut in two and 10cm of her intestines had to be removed after the goal frame crushed her abdomen.
