QLDC mulls HQ options

Options for a new council headquarters are on the table for Queenstown Lakes District councillors to consider during the next month.

Councillors were presented with three options at a workshop on the building on Thursday, Mayor Clive Geddes said.

Two were for Gorge Rd land identified as a potential site earlier this year.

The third was for commercial space offered by a developer for lease, Mr Geddes said.

The workshop was "informal" to get the information to councillors ahead of a second workshop on the draft long-term council community plan, in which the new building will be included.

When asked if the Man St car park building was also an option, Mr Geddes said it was not, although the building had been offered to the council "about 15 months ago".

The public would get their chance to be heard about the building when the draft form of the LTCCP was put out for consultation in March, Mr Geddes said.

All the options would be included, with the council's preference shown.

Mr Geddes said there would be no timeframe for construction of the headquarters until the LTCCP and options had been finalised.

Even then, the LTCCP was "a 10-year plan", he said.

The long-term plan had to be finalised by June.
