A $6.5 million house for sale on Closeburn Station, near Queenstown, is being showcased on the home page of the New York Times website.

The site is one of the top ranked US news sites, with a readership of about 17.5 million.

The article, in the site's property section, says the six-bedroom three-bath home is on Closeburn Station, a 3000-acre working alpine farm with 27 private homes.

"Large farms are called stations in New Zealand," the writer helpfully explains.

"The property is 20 minutes from the city's airport in the region of Otago, an area known for its wine vineyards."

The story quotes Julian Brown, the owner of Browns Sotheby's International Realty in Queenstown saying the recent weakening of the New Zealand dollar had sparked increased interest among American buyers.

He said that interest among the upper reaches of the property market remained high.

"There's a limited supply of luxury homes in Queenstown," he said. "In other sectors - the low- and middle-end - there's an oversupply."
