Redevelopment of building, site notified

The proposed redevelopment of part of a historic building and its site in Arrowtown has been publicly notified and submissions close on August 25.

Mertha Investments Ltd has applied for resource consent with Lakes Environmental, to undertake a redevelopment of The Tap Tavern, located within the Arrowtown residential historic management zone.

The proposal for the property, owned by Allan and Barbara Hamilton, is to remove additions to the rear of the historic stone building; add an extension and erect a new building in the yard area for commercial purposes; establish a public pedestrian link between the existing and proposed buildings for a future link to the neighbouring site; create two signage platforms; undertake 528cu m of earthworks; and form two car-parking spaces accessed from Romans Lane.

The proposed new building would comprise a basement and ground floor, each about 100sq m, and would be clad in weatherboard with a corrugated iron roof.

The nature of the commercial activity for the building was "likely" to involve the sale of liquor, retail, dining, storage and/or office space.

The additions and new building would result in a site coverage of 63.6%.
