Helmets, boots, and all snow sports gear in between were available at the annual Wakatipu Ski Club sale in the Queenstown Events Centre yesterday.

Hundreds of bargain hunters filed through the doors from 1.30pm, after private and commercial sellers had dropped off their new, or nearly new skis, snowboards, boots, jackets, gloves, helmets and clothes in the morning.

People who had never set foot on the slopes before to life-long enthusiasts browsed the wares and asked club members and retailers for advice.

Savvy shoppers used their smartphones to compares prices online for the best deals.

NZSki, Treble Cone, Brown's Ski Shop, R&R Sport, QT Rides, the Mountain Safety Council and the Queenstown Lakes District Council offering winter driving tips, operated stalls.

A silent auction ran and the Wakatipu High School netball A team fundraised with a sausage sizzle outside.

The family-orientated Wakatipu Ski Club took a small commission from each sale to raise funds for its children's ski lesson programme at Coronet Peak.
