Ski industry pioneer Ralph Markby dies

Ski industry pioneer and gardening guru Ralph Markby has died, aged 85.

Mr Markby was one of the founders of Treble Cone skifield and later joined the board of directors.

He had two books published - Snow Business (2008), a New Zealand ski industry history, and Garden Plants for Central Otago (2005).

Mr Markby and a business partner set up office furniture company Metalon Products in Dunedin in the mid-1950s.

He moved permanently from Dunedin to Wanaka around 1990 and had been living in Alexandra in recent months.
