A Coronet Peak Maximus snowplough (left) was called into action yesterday to remove snow from the base area after a heavy fall of more than 30cm on Queenstown skifields this week.
Keen skiers and boarders hit the slopes for some shoulder season action at Coronet Peak yesterday, and staff had to fire up one of the field's snowploughs to clear the base building terrace.
It is two months this week until Coronet Peak opens for winter, so this week's snowfall is too early to affect winter conditions and is expected to melt within a week.
Some trails around The Remarkables skifield received up to 50cm of snow, but the skifield road remains closed to public vehicles while a new base building and car park are built.
Both skifields are operated by NZSki.
