National carrier Air New Zealand is to lay on more direct flights between Queenstown and Sydney this winter.
The service would operate five times a week over the peak winter period, Air New Zealand's general manager of Tasman Pacific Island Airlines, Glen Sowry, said.
The five-flight weekly service would operate during July and August on Monday to Wednesday and Friday and Saturday, followed by a four-flight weekly service in September and a twice-weekly service in October.
The flights would complement twice-weekly direct services linking Queenstown with Melbourne and Brisbane.
The commitment meant nine Air New Zealand flights a week, totalling more than 1300 seats, would be making their way to Queenstown from the east coast of Australia during the peak of the season.
Direct Sydney-Queenstown services outside the ski season only operated on Tuesdays and Saturdays, while weekly Melbourne-Queenstown direct services departed on Saturdays.
