A Queenstown property for sale would probably stand comparison with the best waterfront trophy estates in New Zealand.

At Drift Bay, off the Kingston highway, the five-bedroom, six-bathroom, 877sq m home sits on a flat 4357sq m site fronting Lake Wakatipu.

Feedback for the deadline sale, which closes on July 27, suggested its market value is about $20 million.

According to local Walker & Co Realty principal Hamish Walker, ‘‘this is one of the most significant waterfront offerings to come to the Queenstown market in recent years, combining exceptional scale, privacy and a truly irreplaceable position.

‘‘What immediately stands out is the quality of the design and the way the home has been carefully orientated to maximise its connection with the water.

‘‘Properties of this calibre are incredibly rare, particularly when you combine architectural excellence, expansive landholding and direct access to such an outstanding natural environment.’’

Designed by Cook Sargisson & Pirie Architects, it was built in 2014 by Queenstown’s John Gavin Construction.

The company won the 2014 Southern Region Registered Master Builders supreme award for house of the year with the home.

Judges said it was a complex build, boasting immaculate detailing on a grand scale.

The indoor extras include a seven-seat cinema, gym and steam room.

Outdoors there is a swimming pool, fireplace, a series of sheltered areas and manicured lawns that suit either large-scale entertaining or a quiet retreat.

Mr Walker expected ‘‘interest from both New Zealand and international buyers who recognise that genuinely world-class opportunities are becoming increasingly scarce’’.
