A telephone connection box was damaged on Saturday night, cutting off phones to several homes in the Rippon Lea for a short time.
Const Pete Reed said someone forced their way into the box near the junction of Sargood Dr and Bills Way, and then ripped out some wires.
Two Wanaka men, aged in their 20s, reported being assaulted by a group of men on Roche St, about 10.15pm on Saturday.
Inquiries are continuing into the incident during which the men received bruises and lacerations, Const Reed said.
Wanaka police attended two car crashes during the weekend.
The first occurred on Friday night when two cars collided on Lakeside Rd.
Const Reed said one of the cars was in the wrong lane and the driver, a woman in her 20s, had been charged with driving with excess breath alcohol.
The second crash occurred early on Sunday after a man, aged in his 20s, appeared to have accidently applied the handbrake turning into Hyland St, causing his vehicle to skid before hitting the corner and ending up in a garden.
There were no injuries, Const Reed said.
A 51-year-old Australian man has been charged with shoplifting food from the bulk bins at New World Supermarket.
