Ice, grit and gravel were the causes of three car crashes in the Wakatipu between 6pm Monday and 8am yesterday.
Senior Constable Julian Cahill, of Queenstown, said the first incident, involving a 17-year-old male occurred at 6pm on Monday in almost the same spot as a car crash less than 24 hours earlier.
Snr Const Cahill said the teenager was driving towards Cromwell when he hit ice and grit just past the Crown Range Rd turn-off and lost control of the vehicle, which rolled on to its side.
The driver suffered minor injuries including bruising to his leg.
At 2.45am yesterday, police were called to a crash near the McChesney Creek Bridge at Arthurs Point after a male driver lost control on ice.
The vehicle hit a bank on the left side of the road and ''spun out'', but the driver was uninjured.
At 8.20am, a 51-year-old man had a lucky escape after losing control on gravel on Howards Dr in Lake Hayes Estate.
A police spokeswoman said the vehicle went across grass and ended up ''teetering on top of'' a 2m high retaining wall.
The driver was the sole occupant and was uninjured.
