A Queenstown petrol station will be upgraded and reopened, after it shut up shop with little warning.

Mobil Queenstown in Frankton seemed to shut up shop almost overnight last weekend, with the store cleared out and fencing springing up around the site.

The business’ owners have not responded to requests for comment, but Mobil NZ says it has ‘‘temporarily ceased operation’’ following the expiration of the site dealer’s lease agreement with the property owner.

‘‘We apologise to our valued Mobil customers for any inconvenience this may have caused,’’ Mobil said in a statement.

‘‘Mobil is actively working with the site property owner to introduce a number of enhancements to the site, before the new and improved Mobil Queenstown re-opens in early 2019.’’

More details about the project would be announced early next year. Caltex Queenstown has agreed to accept Mobilcards in the meantime.
