Another drone near airport

Another drone has been spotted flying within the restricted zone around Queenstown Airport.

Police received a report of a drone being flown at a height of about 50m in Frankton Rd, between Suburb St and Hensman Rd, about 3.30pm yesterday. It follows a spate of incidents last month.

Airways New Zealand confirmed it was within the 4km control zone around the airport and the Civil Aviation Authority would be advised.

Drones are not allowed in a controlled airspace or within 4km of an aerodrome.

Police officers spoke to the owner and the drone was reportedly brought down.

Queenstown Airport Corporation communications adviser Naomi Lindsay said no flights were disrupted.

Three illegal drone incidents were reported in one week last month in Queenstown, one involving a drone flying in front of a passenger jet.
