A medical centre, pharmacy and child care centre are on track to open this November in a new building taking shape at Queenstown Country Club.

The first building in a commercial precinct at the retirement village, it will house the second site for the Wakatipu Medical Centre - now operating solely in Frankton's McBride St - and a Summerfield's pharmacy.

The child care centre, Gems Blackbird Hill, will be the third Gems in the area - the other two operate close by in Lake Hayes Estate and Shotover Country.

Queenstown Country Club is being developed beside the Ladies Mile highway between Frankton and Lake Hayes.

Arvida Group announced last month it was buying the retirement village from its developer, the family-owned Sanderson Group, but Sanderson was retaining ownership of the commercial precinct.

Queenstown Country Club project manager Brent Mitchell said work on the next stage of the precinct was expected to start early next year, and would include a cafe, deli-bar and eight retail shops.

Arvida assumes ownership of the retirement village next Thursday. Its chief executive, Bill McDonald, said it would continue with Sanderson Group's plans for a medium-sized hospital and a dementia-level care facility on the site.
