Pilot claims being shot at

Police are continuing to investigate after a paraglider pilot reported being shot at while flying in the Crown Range area.

The pilot was not injured in the incident, which happened about 5pm.

Just before then, police said they were were made aware of a report of a firearm being discharged at a property off Crown Range Road.

New Zealand Hang Gliding and Paragliding club executive member Blake Round said he was aware of the matter and paraglider involved.

A report has been filed with the Civil Aviation Authority and police.

"It's very concerning, obviously. Threats of this nature aren't acceptable and it's pretty upsetting it's happening in this area."

Mr Round noted that the incident took place on a paragliding site that had been well used since 1987.

A police spokeswoman says no arrests have been made.
