Reports emerged yesterday of not just near misses from the wild weather in Central Otago on Wednesday evening but also of the surf being up.
Queenstown resident Lydia Clarke took video of the waves on Lake Wakatipu near Fernhill.
Jalan Heaton (20) said he knew the waves were going to be big and "boosted down there" with friends.
"It was gnarly. I had one set that came up to my chest."
