Waiting to see herself on the big screen for the first time Georgia Spillane was a ''bit nervous''.

The youngster from Cromwell was chosen from 60 hopefuls for The Inland Road feature film which had its Queenstown premiere on Friday night.

Now 7, she was only 5 when filming took place at various locations in Glenorchy, Lowburn and Queenstown.

Speaking to the Otago Daily Times after the premiere, she said it was ''exciting''.

''I would never have thought I would be in a movie, so it was also surprising.''

Mum Josie Spillane said she and husband Mitch had an ''incredibly proud parent moment''.

''It is hard to put into words what it is like to sit there and see your daughter portray someone she's not in a powerful and thought-provoking film. How she played the character and related it to the film was believable - it has been surreal.''

Georgia played Lily, under the direction of Auckland-based writer, director and actress Jackie van Beek.

The $1million film also featured Auckland actress Gloria Popata, Scottish actor David Elliot and Queenstown-raised actress Jodie Hillock.
