Queenstown police are warning people to think twice when buying goods and services on social media websites.

The warning comes after two tourists were stopped by police yesterday while they were driving back to the resort after skydiving in Wanaka.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, said the pair bought the skydives on Chinese social media app WeChat.

They were unaware the skydives had originally been purchased, on reputable online booking company Bookme, by someone using stolen credit card details. That person had then on-sold them on WeChat.

The principle of ``let the buyer beware'' applied in such cases, Snr Sgt Enoka said.
