The Czech tramper who survived a month alone in a Fiordland hut after her partner fell to his death is on her way home.

Czech Republic honorary consul Vladka Kennett said Pavlina Pizova left Queenstown yesterday morning and was expected to arrive in Prague tonight.

Ms Pizova, who is in her early 30s, sheltered in a warden's hut on the Routeburn Track for 24 days after Ondrej Petr (27) fell down a slope below the track on July 28.

Mrs Kennett said arrangements for returning Mr Petr's remains to the Czech Republic had yet to be finalised, but it was expected to happen in the next two days.

A postmortem examination of Mr Petr's body was held on Monday.

Ministry of Justice media and external relations team leader Antony Paltridge said the coroner had received a preliminary report of the postmortem and was awaiting the full report.

No decision had been made on whether a coronial inquiry would be opened, he said.
