A trio of teen rockers are singing pretty after becoming the first Wakatipu High School band to make the finals at Smokefree Rockquest.
Haven, made up of Ryan Connaghan, Harrison Maguire and Jack Wilson, is one of just seven bands to make the national finals.
It was the first time in its 31-year history that Rockquest's national final had featured a Queenstown band, Haven bassist and singer Ryan said.
''We weren't expecting that,'' he said.
He found out the band had made the cut after receiving a text message from a friend on Friday afternoon.
''It was pretty surreal. I couldn't really believe it. We're really honoured.''
The final will be held in Auckland on September 14, where Haven will play two songs in front of its biggest audience ever.
''It'll be good to just go on and have a good time,'' Ryan said.
There will be plenty to play for, so to speak.
The winner of the band section will receive $10,000 worth of music gear from the Rockshop, as well as funding to record a song and music video from NZ on Air.
