Uber was this week preparing to launch its rideshare service in Timaru, providing locals and tourists with a new way to get around town, and the opportunity for drivers to offer trips and earn some extra cash.
As part of its continued regional expansion across Aotearoa, Uber is now actively looking for local drivers in Timaru.
Uber ANZ strategic supply and expansion lead Dan Lopez said the company had heard from the Timaru community that residents were ready for more choice in convenient and reliable ways to get around.
"As we prepare to launch, we are looking for locals who are keen to explore a new flexible way to earn on their own schedule when we go live in Timaru. With Uber, unlike traditional work, you get to choose when and how often you drive. Driver partners get paid weekly, and have access to in-app and phone support, along with safety features designed to help you feel confident on the road."
Uber’s 2024 Economic Impact Report found the platform contributed $1.5 billion to the New Zealand economy last year including $67million in tourism-related spend, and $260m in value from flexible work.
"We believe Uber can play a positive role in Timaru by improving local mobility with a new way to travel from A to B, and creating new opportunities for those looking to earn in a way that fits around their lifestyle," Mr Lopez said.
The Uber team was scheduled to be at the Chamber of Commerce offices yesterday to meet locals wanting to sign up as driver partners and engage with local stakeholders before the launch. — Allied Media
