Receptionist Ingrid Keating who has been the "face and voice" of the council for over 23 years resigned last month.
Her last day on the job will be Monday.
Ms Keating (49) recalled working with five chief executives and three mayors.
She had thought about resigning ever since taking extended leave in 2014 for family reasons.
It was then that she realised how short life was.
She was looking forward to not having to rush all the time.
Ms Keating said she had always loved her work.
"It was my ultimate dream job when I got it. I was so excited."
She was going to miss the friends she had made at the council.
"I spend more time with them than my own family."
However, with the introduction of a new electronic and computing system at the council, Ms Keating saw it as an ideal time to leave.
Instead of training a new receptionist on the old system and then having to teach them the new system, it would make the transition easier if they only learnt the new one.
"It’s just how things worked."
Ms Keating said the council had been "really good" and supportive over the years.
She would still be involved as a volunteer as part of the council’s civil defence response and would do some relieving work from time to time.
Council chief executive Steve Hill in a statement said Ms Keating set the bar in customer service.
He said she was the "face and voice" of the council.
Mr Hill thanked her both on behalf of the council and personally for her immense contribution.
