Murals keep on trucking

A vibrant mural series honouring prominent local trucker-businessman Alex "Mac" McLellan now emblazons a long wall along a heavy traffic route in Balclutha.

The collage, created from McLellan Freight’s James St frontage, reflects Mr McLellan’s working life in transport and moments cherished by family and friends.

Mr McLellan died February 20, 2024.

"I had the idea to remember my husband, who passed away two years ago,’’ company owner-director Kim Unahi-McLellan said.

"The first panel completed was of Alex on his ride-on lawnmower, a memory many of his family and friends can relate to."

Milton artist Alice Blake was on hand to complete the work, which incorporates subtle personal references that help link all the panels together into a broader story of Mr McLellan’s life, family and favourite hard-working vehicles.

The installation was finished in advance of the company marking 37 years in business on May 1, adding a personal note to their Barr and James Sts premises
