The biggest prize money event at the Lawrence Rodeo on January 31 will be the inaugural ''Undies Run''.

Publicity officer Murray Hellewell said the novelty event, with $1000 prizemoney on offer, was about giving the 28th annual Lawrence rodeo something distinctive and having a ''hell of a laugh''.

Another rodeo spokesman, David Robertson, said the sights to be seen during the event would be ''no different than at the beach''. Entrants to the undressed obstacle course could sign up on the day and entry would be restricted to those 18 or older. The prize money would be split between men and women.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
