A 25-year-old man was arrested yesterday following an armed offenders squad callout.
More than 20 police, including 12 members of the Dunedin armed offenders squad, were called to Waitepeka, 10km southwest of Balclutha, shortly before 3pm.
Acting Sergeant Murray Hewitson said the man recently moved to the area from the North Island and had an "extensive" criminal record. Police had several outstanding warrants for his arrest.
Acting Sgt Hewitson said initial reports suggested the man had a firearm but none was found at the house.
The man was arrested without incident.
He is due to appear in the Dunedin District Court next week.
• Police yesterday confirmed that the body found lodged in tree branches in the Clutha River about 1km east of Stirling on Wednesday was that of missing truck driver Michael John Dippie (55).
Acting Sgt Hewitson said a forensic dental specialist confirmed his identity. Drowning was the presumed cause of death.
