Bowlers to use garage

Balclutha Bowling Club members will adjourn to a kitset garage instead of their clubrooms for the better part of the coming season as plans are finalised to replace the club's headquarters, which was destroyed by a fire in April.

Club secretary Roger Merret said design details were being finalised for the replacement clubrooms which will be built on the existing Charlotte St site which has been home to the club for more than a century.

The garage would be a temporary base for club members and allow committee members to organise events.

While it would not be a licensed premises, Mr Merret said it would serve hot drinks and possibly food after club matches and tournaments.

Once the new clubrooms is completed the garage would be used to store machinery.

The outdoor bowling season starts towards the end of September and Mr Merret said there was a chance players would have to endure an entire season without a permanent clubrooms.
