They ate a cooked breakfast but the suffering of men and women with breast cancer was uppermost in the minds of those who gathered for a Pink Breakfast in Balclutha yesterday.

About 35 people gathered at the event, organised by the Clutha Health First social club, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Clutha Health First occupational therapy assistant Jenny Nicol said staff and others were invited to gather for the breakfast but also to reflect on people they knew who had breast cancer.

They could also make a donation towards the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation and buy pink-themed products.

Mrs Nicol said the breakfast was a great chance for staff and others to meet in a social setting - and to remember the real reason for the gathering.

The Pink Breakfast raised about $316.50 for the foundation.
