Telford students Hannah Palmer and Jonty Wylaars were the successful applicants for the Clutha District Council's Telford Bursary, which was granted to them at a standing committee meeting last week.

The bursary, open to students studying at the Telford campus near Balclutha, is to help with their studies. Mr Wylaars said he hoped to complete his study debt-free and start his own farm in Canterbury, where he came from. Mr Wylaars was also on the Clutha District Council youth council.

Miss Palmer, originally from the Coromandel, said the $1500 bursary would help her visit home during an upcoming break. She had previously been involved in youth council at her home and said she enjoyed giving back to communities.

The bursary is paid in two halves. The second half will be paid upon successful completion of the year's study.
