Clutha Country Music Club drew dozens of fans from eight southern clubs for their annual interclub concert last Sunday, June 28.

Among the all-day event’s musicians were (from left) Clutha keyboardist Elaine Coughlan, Middlemarch bassist Ivan McPhail, Oamaru drummer Grace Michelle, Dunedin acoustic rhythmist Monica Barkman and Taieri Mouth tickle-string Graeme Fraser.

Club nights and practice nights were held to encourage musicians to practise a song then get up and have a go with a house band, friendly crowd, and line-dancers looking for a shindig, club treasurer Jane Whitmore said.

"We got involved years ago to give our younger family plenty of regular options and experience playing their instruments in front of a real crowd," Mrs Whitmore said.

"There’s always a welcome, hospitality and time for a chat so people just love to come and hang out whether they want to perform or not."

Club nights on Balclutha’s Frances St occur on the third Wednesday of each month, with practice night the Friday prior.
