Second Hand Sunday is set to return, giving locals the chance to pass on items they no longer need — or pick up something useful for free.
From 9am until noon, residents should place unwanted but still usable items near their driveway or letterbox, clearly visible, free and safe for others to take away.
To be included on the official list of participating households, residents must register their address on council’s website by September 29, download and print the Second Hand Sunday poster and display it prominently on their mailbox.
This list will be shared ahead of the day so that treasure hunters know where to look.
"If you’re planning a spring clean, now’s the perfect time to start.
"It’s a simple way to give your old stuff a new life and keep it out of landfill," council waste education officer Scott Martin said.
The community event follows last year’s cancellation due to flooding and organisers are encouraging households across the district to take part.
Leaving items out too long could eventually breach bylaws, so uncollected items are best removed by the end of Sunday at 5pm.
From furniture and kitchenware to books, toys or tools, the event works like a district-wide garage sale, but with no money involved — just neighbours helping neighbours while reducing dumping.
