The Clutha District Council placed advertisements in local media last week detailing 14 positions for managers, team leaders, supervisors, engineers, technicians, operators and administrators in the department.
Council chief executive Steve Hill said the recruitment push was part of the council’s new approach to delivering water services.
Last month, the council announced it would be terminating its contract with Three Waters service provider Citycare Water a year early, by "mutual agreement".
A council spokeswoman said it would provide water services through a mixture of council staff and third-party contractors.
Yesterday, Mr Hill said he was confident the roles would be filled quickly.
"This is part of council’s new approach in delivering water services for Clutha until they become the responsibility of a proposed new Otago-Southland water entity on or before July 1, 2026.
"While there is some uncertainty for council staff working in Three Waters, the need to provide water services in Clutha will not change. Many of these staff ... are guaranteed roles under the new entity."
Mr Hill said some roles had already been filled, and recruitment for the remainder was a priority.
Residents could be assured there would be no effect on the quality of service in the meantime, he said.
