Time is running out for residents to check they are correctly enrolled before the Balclutha ward by-election closes on Friday.
Three people are standing in a by-election for the position of Balclutha ward councillor for the Clutha District Council: Darrell Craig-Mackenzie, Stewart MacDonell, and Ken Payne.
Cr Chris Hargest's resignation in July forced the by-election because it came more than 12 months before the next local body elections, due in October 2013.
The elected representative will join Balclutha ward representatives Crs Hamish Anderson, Ron Davis and Mary Johnstone.
Voting opened on September 13, and closes at noon on Friday .
Registrar of electors for the Clutha-Southland electorate Sue Skelt said voters in the Balclutha ward area needed to enrol to vote or update their enrolment details by Thursday to vote in the by-election.
Those on the unpublished roll should contact electoral officer Alan Dickson at the Clutha District Council to get information on how to apply to cast a special vote, as their details are kept confidential.
Enrolment forms are available by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 367 656), by texting the person's name and address to 3676, from any Post Shop, or by requesting or downloading a form from elections website www.elections.org.nz.
People can also call the 0800 number if they have any enrolment queries and can check their enrolment status at the elections website or on any electoral roll at any Post Shop, courthouse or public library, Ms Skelt said.
