One man's crusade against cancer will have him and others pedalling on a stationary bicycle in a bid to raise money for charity.
Norman Moody aims to raise money to combat prostate and breast cancer.
Mr Moody's wife died from cancer in 1988 when she was 39 years old and his sister recently died from cancer as well.
In an attempt to raise money and awareness surrounding the "horrible disease'', Mr Moody is organising a "Pedal for Hope'' charity event, to be held at the Cross Recreation Centre in Balclutha on October 29.
Mr Moody will cycle for 12 hours straight but
others will be able to cycle for their own nominated period of time.
"After all these years, I can look back at what was the most difficult and challenging time of our [family's] lives with a great sense of hope,'' Mr Moody said.
This hope was what inspired the "Pedal for Hope'' name.
Mr Moody said it was about more than raising money; it was about raising awareness and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
He goes to the gym about six or seven times a week to stay fit.
"I'm not saying it's a cure for cancer, but it helps,'' he said.
He hoped to inspire others and encourage them to get involved.
Mr Moody hoped all the estimated 30 exercise cycles in the centre would be in use on the day.
Entry forms are available from the Cross Recreation Centre.
